Understanding Your Heart Rate Response

If you experience an elevation in your heart rate, this is quite normal and reflects how your body is responding to the salt cave environment.

Our salt room maintains a cool, dry microclimate—around 66°F with 45% humidity—similar to natural underground salt caves.

When the halogenerator runs, it disperses fine salt particles and produces negative ions through the friction of the crystals. During your session, these conditions can gently stimulate your respiratory and circulatory systems, which may temporarily increase heart rate.

This happens for a few reasons:

  1. Nitric oxide production: Breathing the salt-enriched air can stimulate the sinuses and lungs to produce nitric oxide (NO), a molecule that helps relax blood vessels, improve circulation, and enhance oxygen delivery.

  2. Vagus nerve activation: Deep, calm breathing in the salt environment stimulates the vagus nerve, a key part of the parasympathetic nervous system. This initially adjusts heart rate as the body balances between alertness and relaxation.

Together, these effects improve oxygenation and circulation, and the heart rate usually settles back as your body fully relaxes.

Many guests describe feeling calm, clear, and grounded afterward.
